Our Projects
Native Mushroom Strains
Beginning with our Mill Brook Beauty oyster strain in 2023, we have sampled and cultured exceptional mushrooms found in our local area.
Preserving & propagating vigorous, high-quality wild specimens is key in our mission to support native fungal biodiversity!

Alternative Materials
Mill slab grow logs: Slabs, the bark-covered ends cut to square off timber logs, are an abundant resource in New England. We inoculated some with various mushrooms in late fall 2025. Results are still forthcoming, but we have our fingers crossed!
Beeswax bags: Replacing disposable bags with buckets still adds more plastic to the planet than we'd like. Experiments to gauge the viability and longevity of waxed fabrics to replace buckets are underway.
Sylva Tent - Outdoor Mushroom Grow Enclosure
Sylva Tent is our forest-friendly outdoor answer to the popular Martha tent. Sylva began as a backyard DIY project to solve common problems with indoor grows: high resource costs, extensive cleaning, problematic spore exposure, and a never-ending stream of single use plastics.
Sylva can be built to suit small diversified agriculture operations or home hobbyists and has a host of advantages for growers. Learn more about Sylva
