Lion's mane logs using local strains
A Cornell Small Farms Study on outdoor production of Hericium (lion's mane) family mushrooms concluded that locally cloned specimens vastly outperformed commercial spawn
Our collection of wild Hericium americanum & coralloides strains to test is growing each year
Making a reliable lion's mane family log is a top goal for ourselves & our customers
Alternative materials
We constantly experiment with ways to eliminate disposable waste, reduce reliance even on recyclable/reusable plastics & creatively use resources that may otherwise go to waste for growing food
Pictured: Mill slab grow logs, made from the first and second squaring cuts of timber logs, are a test we started in 2025. Instead of becoming firewood or rotting in a pile, we're sure this resource can be used to produce mushrooms
Pollinator gardens
Expanding annually, our mix of native perennials, beneficial annuals, and wild "chaos" gardens bring in masses of pollinating insects, birds and other wildlife
The beauty and tranquility of our flower patches can be found seasonally in arrangements at our farm stand
