Learn to grow your own wine cap mushrooms!  Approx. 30-40 minutes followed by Q&A 

$25 ticket includes:

  • Admission for (1) family / couple / small group of friends / individual  - all ages welcome

  • (1) 2.5 lb. bucket of wine cap spawn to build a 20 sq. ft. mushroom bed at home with your own wood chips

  • Hands-on bed demonstration & info session on care / ID / harvesting

  • $5 off coupon for (1) 2026/2027 adult admission to Ruggles Mine

  • Wood chips are available to take home! BYO large containers, paper leaf bags will be available at our cost

The workshop is NOT IN the mine! Please follow the signs directing guests to the workshop site & parking. 

We are offering low price group admission to keep this workshop affordable for everyone. Six spaces are available, which may result in a large headcount. When booking, please let us know who will attend in the field provided to help us prepare.

Before the workshop:

  • Pick out shady sites with water access for your wine cap bed at home

  • Think of any questions about growing, cooking, selecting a site etc.

  • If you cannot stand for 30-45 minutes, plan to bring a camp chair or contact us and we'll bring one you can use

Day of workshop:

  • Wear clothing and footwear appropriate for the woods /  uneven terrain

  • Be ready for kneeling, bending, and getting your hands dirty - bring gloves if you wish

  • Be present - please leave screens in the car when possible (no unauthorized photography during the workshop)

After the workshop:

  • Prepare to refrigerate your spawn, build your wine cap bed within 2 weeks, and water bi-weekly until frost
